Turkey Hill Dairy
“Turkey Hill Dairy understands that farmland preservation is critical to the future of Lancaster County and has made a conscious decision to help protect the local agricultural community. They have been a great supporter of the Trust for many years, and we thought it would be a natural step for us to combine our efforts,” explains Karen Martynick, Executive Director of the Trust. In addition to its financial contributions over the years, Turkey Hill often provides drinks and ice cream for Trust’s events such as Pedal to Preserve, the annual picnic, and the annual dinner. We are delighted that Turkey Hill recognizes the importance of farmland preservation to the success of their products, and we look forward to working with them to save even more farms,” Martynick continued.
Each year, approximately 1,100 acres of farmland are lost to development in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. That farmland produces much of this nation’s food, including milk for more than 10 million people. And if that farmland is paved over, it’s lost forever.
Did you know it takes?
2 acres of land to support 1 cow
1 cow to make 8 gallons of milk per day
1.5 gallons of milk to make 1 gallon of ice cream
1 cow to make 5.33 gallons of ice cream per day
Turkey Hill Dairy donates proceeds from the sales of its All Natural Recipe ice cream to Lancaster Farmland Trust. The black and white cartons of ice cream showcase the Trust logo and website address. A paragraph on the side panel of the package reads: And your purchase of any flavor helps the Lancaster Farmland Trust preserve our treasured farmlands and simple way of life for future generations.
